At $17/year owning a domain name may not seem like much. But, they can be a valuable asset to your company.
Domain names are part of a global marketplace. Many people buy domain names so they can resell them to new enterprises. For example, juicemedia.com was taken. The company Juice Media was able to purchase the domain license for $1,000 from an entrepreneur in India who had purchased the license for resale. (Registered names such as Coca Cola(r) are protected.)
Many people around the world watch the domain list to see what has expired and purchase it as soon as they can in the hopes of reselling it back to the original owner.
